Geotechnical Engineering Services goes form strength to strength on HS2
After successfully completing an extensive phase of Site Investigation Drilling for HS2 in Aylesbury Drilcorp GES were approached by Fugro Geoservices to assist in another high profile HS2 Project in Warwickshire.
Following initial prequalification meetings GES was awarded the Project which consisted of more than 40 boreholes to be fully cored to depths ranging from 15.00m to 65.00m.
Drilcorp GES selected the T57 Geo Rotary Drilling Rig for the deeper boreholes. This rig has wide rubber tracks to give a low ground bearing pressure allowing movement over soft ground while causing minimal damage and disruption. We selected a T44 Rotary Drilling Rig for the shallow locations. This small but powerful drilling rig also runs on rubber tracks which are retractable for restricted access positions. Both rotary drilling rigs were accommodated by two TMAC Tracked compressors which were able to tow site water bowsers
Site surveys were carried out prior to works commencing as the borehole locations were located on agricultural farmland as well as ecologically sensitive areas.
The 146mm diameter boreholes allowed room for specialist in-situ testing comprising of Geophysics, Packer Testing and High Pressure Dilatometer Testing and were completed with installations to Client’s specification with livestock fencing where needed.
To date the drilling programme has been running for a period of 8 weeks and is expected to be completed ahead of schedule.
Fugro Geoservices and HS2 are extremely satisfied with the work rate and quality of core recovery. There have been no contractual issues throughout the project – another good result for Drilcorp GES as well as our Client.
Scott Burt Contracts Manager GES commented “Drilcorp GES continue to invest to stay up to date with the ever changing legislation in order to continue successful work on these high profile contracts. Training of our personnel is essential for maintaining our high standards and Drilcorp GES successfully carried out two new NVQ – BDA Assessments on this contract gaining two more accredited members within our business.”
